Abstract

The exercise of the freedom of expression, recognized as an integral part of human rights, is a vital factor in the strengthening of peace and international understanding. The freedom of expression is a vital part of the democratic process guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and by the various international instruments adopted to ensure the protection of human rights. It flows from these guarantees that the people of every country are entitled as a right, to receive views and information without interference and regardless of the frontiers. Accordingly, we are dealing here with this fundamental right by looking at the relevant provisions as provided for in the human rights conventions, especially, the analyzing of specific aspects of those provisions raises conceptual and interpretative problems. However, this study is concerned with the determination of the right to freedom of expression, its nature and content.
