Abstract

In this study, we will explore the world of drunkenness in Mawlawi's poetry, which led us to title our research "Drunkenness with Full Awareness." In this study, we see the world of drunkenness in Mawlawi's eyes as a type of consciousness, contrary to the traditional view that sees drunkenness as a loss of consciousness. For Mawlawi, it is a kind of consciousness to the dark and ambiguous parts of the body and soul.

This research consists of two parts. In the first part titled "The Tavern of Poetry" in Mawlawi's poems, we will delve into the themes of drunkenness, unconsciousness, and imagination in that tavern described by the poet, whether in its reality or in its Sufi realm. It will be studied meticulously with an exploration of concepts and vocabulary such as the cup, drink, wine, and the sommelier.

In the second part, entitled "Drunkenness and Awareness," we will discuss the Sufi aspect of drunkenness in Mawlawi's world, linked to a state of drunkenness with full awareness that reflects on the external world. The Sufi drunkenness in Mawlawi's view is a stimulation of the senses, as the senses are not in harmony with the system, the world, and prevailing thoughts. The dominance of closed-minded thinking, religious prohibitions, and legal constraints have made feelings a hiding place for those ideas, desires, and instincts that do not find acceptance in the world and the system we live in. They often need embellishment, normalization, softening, and change to express them. When Mawlawi's mystical drunkenness activates this side and sheds light on it; the deep dimension of awareness in a state of drunkenness becomes a source of questioning and doubts about the system and life in general.

For Mawlawi, drunkenness is a type of awareness against submission, where humans have been enslaved by supernatural forces and street culture, leading to a simple life pattern of basic necessities or seeking rewards in the afterlife. Capitalism itself has made it a necessity,  which deprives humans of their lives in this market and take them out of their cosmic dimension. People in this era take fewer clues leading them to the mysterious, secret, hidden, and deep dimensions of their hearts, but drunkenness (especially Mawlawi's world of drunkenness) is able and is appropriate to do so.

In the context of this descriptive research, we will review some of Mawlawi's poems and shed light on different Sufi concepts, supported by various sources, and conclude with an abstract in both Arabic and English.
