Abstract

This research examines Dr. Irfan Abdul Hamid Fattah's (1933–2007) perspective on the issue of Qur'anic inimitability, analyzing his concept of inimitability and the methodological foundations he employed in his study. The research aims to elucidate the nature of his intellectual approach, which combines drawing upon Islamic heritage with a methodological openness to the challenges of contemporary thought.

The research adopts a critical analytical approach by tracing Dr. Irfan's texts in his Qur'anic writings and studies, and analyzing his views on the various aspects of inimitability, particularly rhetorical, legislative, and scientific inimitability.

The research concludes that Dr. Irfan Abdul Hamid presented a balanced reading of the issue of inimitability, based on the comprehensiveness of the concept and rejecting its reduction to a single dimension. He also adopts a critical stance against the uncontrolled expansion of scientific inimitability, emphasizing that the Qur'an is primarily a book of guidance. This research will reveal his expanded understanding of the miraculous nature of the Quran, encompassing its rhetorical, legislative, and civilizational dimensions, while also offering a critical perspective on superficial or one-dimensional interpretations of this phenomenon.

Dr. Irfan's work contributes to the renewal of the discourse on the miraculous nature of the Quran by establishing a balanced, rational, and critical methodology that harmonizes tradition and modernity. The research problem stems from an attempt to uncover the nature of Dr. Irfan Abdul Hamid Fattah's approach to the issue of Quranic inimitability and the extent of his methodological contribution compared to classical and contemporary approaches.

The research employs an inductive analytical method to trace Dr. Irfan Abdul Hamid's texts, while also utilizing the historical method to present the evolution of the concept of Quranic inimitability.

Dr. Irfan Abdul Hamid's treatment of Quranic inimitability represents a contemporary model that combines tradition and modernity, contributing to the renewal of Quranic discourse and highlighting the scholarly role of Kurdish Muslim scholars in Baghdad in serving Quranic studies. This constitutes a scholarly impetus for studying his thought and analyzing his contributions to the field of Quranic studies.
