This research focuses on the life of Professor Nizam al-Din Abdul Hamid, a Kurdish scholar who lived in Baghdad and held a prominent position in academic and intellectual circles. It examines his efforts in teaching and writing, and his insightful, purpose-oriented approach to family law within a rigorous analytical framework. The study aims to highlight his standing in the field of Islamic jurisprudence by examining his scholarly works and analyzing his methodology in addressing family issues.
The late Professor Abdul Hamid contributed significantly to the development of Islamic studies through his writings, teaching, and participation in scholarly conferences. He was known for his emphasis on connecting legal rulings to their overarching evidence and establishing sound methodological foundations. His scholarly output was distinguished by its blend of tradition and contemporary relevance, and he was deeply committed to issues of intellectual and educational reform. This is evident in the diversity of his writings, encompassing exegesis, intellectual studies, jurisprudence, and the objectives of Islamic law (maqasid al-shari'ah). This reflects the depth of his thought and the breadth of his knowledge. His scholarly efforts are distinguished by their engagement with the foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence and comparative analysis, coupled with attempts to simplify concepts and present jurisprudential issues in a fresh light without compromising the principles of the scientific method.
Professor Nizam al-Din considered the objectives of Islamic law to be the governing framework for understanding texts and applying rulings. He believed that the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property constitutes overarching principles guiding legal reasoning and issuing fatwas. He also advocated for activating the objectives-based approach in addressing contemporary issues, thereby achieving a balance between the demands of reality and the established principles of Islamic law.
The research concludes that Professor Nizam al-Din Abdul Hamid's contributions represent a qualitative addition to the field of maqasid studies, characterized by a conscious reformist vision and profound scholarly methodology, making him one of the most influential figures in contemporary Islamic thought. In order to shed light on the life, efforts and writings of this creative researcher and Kurdish scholar, I chose the aforementioned title to submit my research to your esteemed conference.
