Abstract

This research examines and presents the scholarly and missionary contributions of several prominent members of the Al-Buzayni family in Iraq, focusing on the efforts of Sheikh Abdul Hamid Al-Buzayni's sons, Dr. Nizam Al-Din Abdul Hamid and Dr. Muhsin Abdul Hamid, as prime examples of the continuity of scholarly tradition within the family. The research aims to highlight the family's role in serving Islamic sciences in general, and Quranic sciences and exegesis in particular, through their writings, scholarly articles in the Journal of Islamic Education, and their scholarly and missionary activities in Iraqi society.

The research stems from a central question:

How did this single scholarly family contribute to presenting diverse interpretive approaches that combine scholarly rigor with methodological conciseness, while simultaneously addressing the educational and missionary needs of contemporary Iraqi society? To answer this question, the study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to trace and analyze the scholarly efforts of the Bazini family, utilizing a comparative approach to examine the two exegetical methodologies represented by Dr. Nizam al-Din Abd al-Hamid in his exegesis "Tafsir-i Gulshan" and Dr. Muhsin Abd al-Hamid in his scholarly work summarizing Al-Alusi's exegesis "Ruh al-Ma'ani."

The research is organized into an introductory section and five main sections. The introductory section introduces the Bazini family and provides a brief overview of the life of Sheikh Abd al-Hamid al-Bazini. The first section addresses the general framework of the Bazini clan in terms of its name and its historical and geographical reach. The second section presents the most prominent figures of the Bazini family and their scholarly contributions. The third section examines the family's efforts in the field of exegesis and Qur'anic sciences, highlighting their most significant scholarly output in this area. The fourth section focuses on their scholarly contributions in Iraqi cities, particularly Baghdad, Kirkuk, and Erbil, and their contributions to scholarly and cultural activities. The fifth section addressed their educational and teaching roles in mosques and universities, and their efforts in disseminating Islamic knowledge and engaging in da'wah (missionary) activities.

The applied aspect of the research focused on analyzing the interpretive methodologies of both Dr. Nizam al-Din Abdul Hamid, through his commentary "Gulshan," which is distinguished by its emphasis on traditional interpretations and its focus on educational and da'wah aspects, and Dr. Muhsin Abdul Hamid, through his summary of Al-Alusi's commentary. This latter work reflects a profound understanding of the interpretive heritage and an endeavor to present it in a concise and accessible format for researchers and students.

The research concluded that the efforts of these two scholars represent a clear model of integrated roles within the same scholarly community. The first combines educational and da'wah-oriented interpretation directed at society, while the second is dedicated to serving the interpretive heritage and re-presenting it in a contemporary methodological framework. This integration has contributed to strengthening the presence of Qur'anic and exegetical studies in the contemporary academic and da'wah landscape in Iraq. The research recommends expanding studies related to the history of contemporary interpretation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and paying attention to documenting the output of scholarly families and their role in preserving and disseminating the sciences of the Holy Qur’an, given the important scientific and cultural contribution these efforts represent to the course of contemporary Qur’anic studies.
