Abstract

The issue of the perpetrator of a major sin is one of the most important issues in Islamic theology (Kalam). It has occupied many scholars, both past and present, and continues to be discussed among philosophers and theologians to this day, especially since it was a direct cause of the emergence of the Mu'tazila school of thought.

Concepts surrounding major sins are numerous, and Islamic sects have differed in their rulings regarding the punishment of the perpetrator of a major sin in this life and the hereafter, holding various schools of thought.
