Abstract

This research examines a theological issue: the relationship between the Divine Essence and Attributes. It does so by comparing the views of two eminent scholars of Islamic theology: Sayyid Abd al-Rahim al-Mawlawi and Sheikh Abd al-Qadir al-Muhajir. Both were scholars from Kurdistan, contemporaries, and shared scholarly and social ties. This theological issue is one of the complex matters on which Islamic sects differed and discussed extensively. Sheikh Abd al-Qadir expressed his opinion and introduced a new approach to explaining this issue, recording his views in some of his works. Sayyid Abd al-Rahim al-Mawlawi followed him, conveying his opinion verbatim in one of his poems. This study reveals al-Mawlawi's influence by al-Muhajir in his theological methodology.
