All praise is due to Allah, the One truly deserving of praise. All praise and thanks are due to Him, the One who is worthy of all praise and thanks, the Everlasting and Eternal, the Exalted. All praise is due to Allah, who elevated the status of scholars, saying, “And We did not send before you any but men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know” (1).
Peace and blessings be upon the teacher of humanity, the guide to goodness and guidance, our master and prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. He is the Prophet who placed goodness in the pursuit of knowledge, saying, “Whomever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion. I am but a distributor, and Allah is the Giver. This nation will continue to adhere to the command of Allah, and those who oppose them will not harm them until the command of Allah comes to pass” (2).
Furthermore, it is well-known that the Kurdish people, since the arrival of Islam in Kurdistan, have spared no effort in spreading this religion. Kurdish scholars of high aspirations dedicated themselves to teaching the fundamentals of Islam and were considered among the most eminent scholars of Islamic history, devoting their efforts and lives to teaching, writing, and serving Islam and Muslims. Among the most distinguished of these later scholars was the eminent Sheikh al-Nawdhi, who left a significant and lasting impact on the fields of authorship and teaching among the scholars of the thirteenth century.
One manifestation of this influence is the large number of students who studied under Sheikh al-Nawdhi. Dozens of students acquired knowledge from him in various Islamic sciences, including creed and monotheism, hadith and exegesis, jurisprudence and its principles, grammar, and rhetoric.
Sheikh al-Nawdhi, may God have mercy on him, was a master of these sciences, which was one of the hallmarks of his influence and distinction.
Furthermore, he adopted a challenging method in his writings, one that only those highly skilled in their field could employ: the method of composing in poetic form.
