Geographical distribution of mine fields and mine victims in Sulaimani province
The aim of the study is to show the geographical distribution of minefields in the study area and to analyze the demographics of mine victims and their distribution into administrative units. To achieve the objectives of the research, each of the methods (regional, descriptive and analytical) was used. The study also assumes that the geographical distribution of minefields in all administrative units of the study area is not the same. The number of minefields is related to the number of mine victims. Mine victims were also divided into different genders and occupations. The research plan consists of three parts: Part 1: Concepts and Terms. Introduction to the research area. Part 2: Discussion 1: History of mines, types of mines, mine organizations and institutions in the research area. Discussion 2: Geographical distribution of mine fields in the Kurdistan Region and the study area. Part 3: Discussion 1: Mine Victims in the Study Area. Discussion 2: An analysis of mine victims and demographics of mine victims in the study area.
The study also concluded that the largest number of minefields in the Kurdistan Region is located in Sulaimani province and its autonomous administrations. It accounts for 64% of the total fields in the Kurdistan Region. At the district level of the study area, the largest number of minefields is located in Penjwen district. at a rate of (34%). The number of mine victims in the province, except the autonomous administrations (Ranya, Garmian) is (5265) victims, and mine martyrs recorded a high rate of (84%), compared to the rate of disabled people (16%). The highest number of cases of both sexes is located in Penjwen district.
In the gender distribution, the exposure rate of males is higher than females with 91% for males and 9% for females in the total study area. The study used (5) maps, (9) tables, (5) figures and ended with conclusions and recommendations.
