Place is considered one of the most influential principles of national identity، which means that human beings are dependent on place and all its dimensions from existence and become part of the structure of human thought and cannot give up، and this shows the importance of place in creating the consciousness of individual identity. In the novel, description is considered an important technique in depicting the different types of places and identities of the characters in the novel.
This study is an attempt to analyze the value, importance, and influence of place on the construction of national identity in the novel The Infidel Girl and the Virgin of Jakarta, where the places and objects within the place directly and indirectly receive different cues from the revelation of the characters' mental identity. The research tries to discuss the concepts and definitions of place and identity, the relationship of place to identity, and the dimensions of place on identity in the context of the two novels, and to carry out the research relies on the method of the American Comparative School. One of the most important findings of the study is that the dimension of place in both novels has its own significance, not only because it is one of the artistic elements, or because it is not the place in which the events and the characters move, but because the place becomes a space that encompasses all the different identities.
