The nation-building process in the Kurdistan Region is a complex process, both historically and culturally. Historically, the process began long before the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (Parliament and Government 1992) and manifested itself through Kurdish nationalism and liberation movement in Iraqi Kurdistan. Especially after that part of Kurdistan was annexed to the Iraqi state without considering the will of its inhabitants. In terms of structure, nation-building in the Kurdistan Region considers itself more of a separate identity from the identity of the Iraqi state and has never considered itself as part of the identity of the Iraqi state. In this regard, this study aims to present a historical framework for the analysis of the nation-building process in the Kurdistan Region during 1992-2005 according to historical stages. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to analyze the nation-building process in the Kurdistan Region from a historical perspective. For this purpose, our research includes three main themes. The first topic presents the concepts of nation, nationalism, nation-building, and the general principles of nation-building. The second topic is devoted to Kurdish nationalism and the formation of political power in the Kurdistan Region after the 1991 spring uprising.
