Abstract

A population policy is a set of strategies implemented by the government to either increase or decrease the annual population growth rate. This is done by encouraging families to have more children or, alternatively, by promoting measures to limit family size. The Republic of Turkey has been particularly serious about this issue. After the establishment of the state in 1923, Turkey implemented a Pronatalist population policy due to the population decline caused by the country's involvement in Balkan & World War I. This approach was also influenced by the belief that a larger population would enhance states political and economic power. This policy continued until 1960, but after that year, the state governors shifted to European-style population policy & began implementing Anti-natalist measures. This study aims to analyze the impact of these policies on the annual population growth rate of the Amid province. For this purpose, official population censuses conducted in Turkey between (1927 & 2000) were utilized.
