In the Middle Ages in Europe, the Church and the Pope had a monopoly on interpreting the Bible, and this led to the persecution of any understanding of the other that contradicted the understanding of the Catholic Church. After a long time had passed and after several individual attempts, the era of the European Enlightenment was born.
In this era, holiness has been removed from the official interpretation of the Church, the Bible has been translated into several languages and has become accessible to many, and its texts have come under several interpretations and several different approaches. One of the most famous of these approaches is the approach of historicism. From his point of view, the sacred text has become a part of its historical context, not an absolute text that is above history, man, and his experiences.
Just as the entire European continent underwent these new changes on the continent, these influences spread after the twentieth century to the outside world after the emergence of the new European civilization. The Islamic world fell under this influence as well. There appeared to be modernists who wanted to place Islamic texts in the context of what was presented. It has the text of the Holy Bible in the West, which is why they tested these new approaches, including historicism, on Islamic texts, and their focus was most on the texts of the Sunnah of the Prophet, so the Sunnah became a part of its history that does not pass through its time, after it had previously been, for Muslims, part of the sources of Islamic legislation. They are obligated to follow it at all times, which is why today we find Sunni deniers using this approach in order to reformulate Islam after they excluded the Sunnah as an authentic legislative source.
