Abstract

Nali (1800-1877) and Mahwi (1836-1906) are two poets and two pillars of classical Kurdish literature. It is clear that the vision and motif of their poetry have the same source, which is the oriental-Islamic poetry and literature. Based on this source; both have almost the same poetic form with some differences in the theme and subject of their poetry, despite the variety of their own personal sources. This study entitled ‘Balancing Poetic Imagery in the Poetry of Nali and Mahwi’, works on balancing the poetry of these two poets in regard to poetic imagery, in which through balance and its criteria, which is an important concept in literary criticism, describes the similarities and differences of forming poetic imagery as well as its elements in the poetry of either poet, and shows their manifold talents and their poetic background in this regard. The aim of the study is to balance and portray the prolific skills and abilities of Nali and Mahwi in creating poetic images, and during the process of literary balancing it identifies the characteristics, criteria and motifs of poetic imagery in the work of each poet. Research methodology: descriptive analysis.  The structure of the study: The research is divided into two chapters. The first one which is the theoretical part discusses the terms and concepts of literary balance and poetic imagery as well as the elements of poetic images. The second chapter tackles the practice of balancing the poetic images in the Kurdish poems of Nali and Mahwi. Finally, the conclusions and references are presented.
